The Lo Down - La La Land Review

Hey Guys and Dolls,

Last night I came home from Daragh's house and my parents had picked me up La La Land on dvd, I was beyond excited. I grew up looking at lots of musicals like 7 Brides for 7 Brothers and Westside Story to name a few so I love them. Of course I couldn't wait to watch La La Land so I watched it on my laptop last night and it was amazing.
I love the pairing of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, it's hard to believe that they've already been in 3 movies together and I love them all especially Crazy Stupid Love. It's a classic! Back to La La Land though I was expecting really good things as it got so many awards and it definitely delivered that's for sure. I can see why it was so popular when it came out.

If you like musicals you'll love this, it's just that with a modern twist. It's about a man and a woman in Hollywood who both have big dreams, Gosling is a musician who wants to open his own Jazz bar and Stone is a aspiring actress, this movie is about their story and their relationship.

I can't talk about this movie without talking about the soundtrack, it's excellent and I think it definitely makes the movie. I love the opening song and City of Stars, they are definitely my favourite. La La Land came out last week so if you are having a quiet weekend I'd recommend picking it up you won't regret the purchase that's for sure.

The Lo Down - Beauty and The Beast

Hey Guys and Dolls,

I grew up watching Beauty and the Beast, it was one of my favourite childhood movies I loved it. I must of watched it a million times I was totally in love with the story. When I heard that Disney where bringing out a live action movie starring Emma Watson from Harry Potter and Dan Stevens from Harry Potter I knew I had to go and see it.
Tonight me and my lovely Mum went to see Beauty and the Beast at Movie @ Dundrum, my local cinema and we were both so excited. We'd been both looking forward to seeing this ever since we heard it was being released. Lets just say we weren't disappointed, it was indeed magical.

From start to finish my eyes were glued to the screen. It was so beautifully done and I couldn't of picked a better Belle, Emma Watson was amazing. My favourite characters in Beauty and the Beast are Lumiere and Cogsworth and I just adored them in this movie. I'm actually getting pins made of them both and I'm going to buy the cuddly toys from the Disney shop to add to my collection as I know they'd make me so happy. I know there going to be expensive but there definitely worth it in my opinion. I love the songs in Beauty and the Beast, there it actually a couple of good new ones in this movie aswell.

Should you go and see the new Beauty and the Beast? Of course it's amazing and both my Mum and I thoroughly amazing. It stayed true to the original storyline plus you'd seriously regret it if you didn't go and see it.

The Lo Down - Kong Skull Island Premiere

Hey Guys and Dolls,

Last Monday I went along to the Kong Skull Island Irish Premiere with my Dad. I won the tickets on the radio station Spin 1038 and the premiere was on in the Savoy in Town. The movie kicked off at 7pm and we were both so excited as we've saw all the King Kong films over the years.
We both really really enjoyed the movie it was action packed from start to finish. Kong Skull Island is actually the prequel to the original King Kong movie which I didn't realise until my Dad told me on the night. The movie features lots of big name stars but the stand out for me was Tom Hiddleston. I love him in Thor, he was amazing in it. Thor is probably my favourite Marvel movie aswell as together. Well it's up there with Captain America.

I always really liked the story of King Kong as people are always scared of him at the start then they soon figure out he's good. So I thoroughly enjoy this movie I'd definitely recommend it if your looking for a good movie to watch this weekend. I do believe this was released today in all cinemas nationwide.

A Trip to the Movies #1 - Les Misérables

Last Friday I dragged my boyfriend along to see Les Misérables. Ever since I seen the ads online last year, I wanted to go see this movie. The original musical was a big part of my childhood memories growing up. My Mom and Dad went to see the stage production in the Point years ago and loved all the songs even before then. Of course my brother, sister and I couldn't get away from the songs as the were played constantly on long journeys down the country or whenever we got into the car for that matter. They were on repeat even more after they went to see the show. We didn't mind though as we grew to love the songs and knew all the words. It was nice to go to see the movie as it jolted my memory and it was like I never stopped listening to them at all. The stellar cast gave an unreal performance that really sucked you in, who knew they had those amazing voices. I know alot of movie critics would disagree with me on that statement but I really thought they were brilliant. My boyfriend who wasn't too keen on going at first really enjoyed it too. He loved Sacha Baron Cohen in it, he thought it was good to see him in a serious film, even though he still played a comedy role.

The two stand out stars for me were Samantha Barks and Anne Hathaway, the latter definitely deserves a Oscar win. While I hadn't heard of Samantha Barks beforehand this performance will definitely cement her place as a big name actress and hopefully we see her in some movies soon. It's hard to believe she was the second runner up in Andrew Lloyd Webber' s "I'd Do Anything" in which she was trying to win the role in Oliver!. It just shows that you don't have to win these shows in order to make a career in music. The two young stars of the movie, Daniel Huddlestone and Isabelle Allen also deserve a mention. They were both astounding, I wish I could sing like that now, let alone at their age. My Mom and Dad went to see Les Misérables on Saturday night, a Christmas present from me. Having see the musical production themselves already, I knew they had set the bar high for the movie. They couldn't of praised this movie enough when they got home. They said it definitely did the musical justice and both of them enjoyed every minute of it.

Well did this musical that took over most of my childhood exceed my high expectations? Yes it most certainly did. The only other musical film I've seen recently was Sweeney Todd and  Les Misérables definitely tops it.

Have you seen Les Misérables? What were your thoughts on it?
